Distance learning knowledge base

Distance learning knowledge base

Dear Students, instructors and colleagues!

This subpage was created as a result of the global emergency to facilitate the transition to a new and innovative form of education, the distance learning for both our students and teachers. The Distance Learning Knowledge Base integrates and thematizes advices, suggestions, teaching methods, techniques and easy-short-manuals that emerge during distance learning, as well as the personal experiences of students, instructors and the faculties.

Q&A with the dean

1. Professional practices

How will the summer professional practices be held for the 4th year students? Will there be any summer practice at all this year? If we cannot leave the country and there isn’t an opportunity to find a pharmacy here, what are our options?

Because of the COVID-19 situation, the schedule and deadline for summer practices may change. The decision of the host institutions (e.g. pharmacies) also significantly influences the summer practice. Students will be informed by the course director as soon as possible.

2. Educational affairs (including courses with practices)

As an exam course attendee, I would like to know whether I can join the online classes.

The same rules apply to attending the classes as in the „normal” education. Code of Studies and Examinations says in Annex 15., Article 1/A 81) and (2) lectures are public, however lecturer may restrict attendance at certain lectures to those having enrolled for the course primarily on the grounds of ethics and personal rights. So, if the course director lets you in the team/group of the lecture, you can join it even if you enrolled for the exam course. However, practices can be attended even online only by the students who registered for them, not the exam course students. This is a subject-specific issue, and we recommend consulting with the course supervisor primarily.

What will be the fate of the practices that can’t be held, if the pandemic wasn’t over soon. Does that mean that the practices should be repeated in a different semester?

This is a subject-specific issue, the course supervisors provide information about the schedule of the upcoming weeks.

We do not have much information regarding certain elective courses. How will the elective courses continue?

We have contacted the course directors directly, they will/ already have contacted students about the details and platform of the distance education of their courses. If any question arises, please contact the course director directly via his/her official email address.

Based on the current situation will the university announce any plan map for the rest of the semester to help the student make a plan for their studies too?

General information is sent by the course supervisors and by the RO (Registrar’s Office) to our students in line with the current changes of the Code of Studies and Examinations.

Is there any chance that the obligatory course directors will determine our weekly tasks as a final grade at the end of the semester instead of taking a final exam with us?

This is also a subject-specific issue. It is the common interest of the society, the pharmacy profession, the training institutions and students that studies can be successfully continued and completed. We will do our best to maintain the highest level and quality of education (both theoretical and practical) during distance learning period.

3. Final closing examination/State exam

Can you share more specific details about the final closing examination including the written and the oral part along with the dates? Will it postpone to August?

The organization, dates and exact manner of the final closing examination depends on the current epidemiological situation and how long the state of emergency and the prohibition on attending the institution lasts. It is the common interest of the society, the Pharmacist profession, the practice places and the students that students can finish and complete their studies successfully. The organization of the written final closing examination is central and unified in Hungary, we don’t know yet how and when it will be held or if there will be any change in it. Further information will be sent out to our students as soon as possible.

4.Exams, course specific issues

Some lectures are not being held but we get tasks and assignments based on the current educational material. These tasks are becoming a prerequisite for the final exam. Is there a way to avoid taking these assignments as a prerequisite for the final exam?

This is a subject-specific issue, and we recommend consulting with the course supervisor primarily. We ask all course directors to provide on-line consultation possibilities during distance learning period. Further, general information – on the distance education of the following weeks, acceptance of the semester, exam period and method of exams - is sent by the course supervisors and by the RO (Registrar’s Office) to our students in line with the current changes of the Code of Studies and Examinations.

I would like to know more about the exam period and how will we take the exams? Is the starting and finishing date of the exam period going to change? Will it be a summer semester this year?

The dates of the exam period have not changed. The Faculty’s plan is to keep the original deadlines unless there will be other orders, regulation during the current situation. This also applies to the exam period and semesters.

What happens to the oral exams? Are they going to be held the same way behind computer? Or they are going to be written?

This is a subject-specific issue, and we recommend consulting with the course supervisor primarily. We ask all course director to provide on-line consultation possibilities during distance learning period. Further, general information – on the distance education of the following weeks, acceptance of the semester, exam period and method of exams - will be sent by the course supervisors and by the RO (Registrar’s Office) to our students in line with the current changes of the Code of Studies and Examinations.

Due to this unexpected situation it is hard for us to keep the pace with distant learning because every subject generates a new condition of acceptance. Is it possible to get more time to prepare for exams by extending the time of the semester?

The Faculty plans to keep the original schedule of the academic year.

Does taking an oral exam instead of a written one mean that it will be harder? In case of oral exams how would we choose a topic in an online exam?If we will have to write an online test, is it possible to ask all of them on the same online platform?

The modification of the Code of Studies and Examinations is complete, and it has been supplemented with Annex 16 in view of the new educational system. Assessments and evaluations will be conducted online while also taking into consideration the students’ interests. Changing the conditions of allowing students to take the exam should not be disproportionately more difficult than in the regular, former rules. Within the online solutions it will be the course director’s authority to determine the examination method. Students/year representatives are advised to contact the competent course directors regarding the exam method of the given subject. The Code of Studies and Examinations has been modified, implementation is on the way.

If I have technical difficulties (e.g. I can’t access internet) during the exam, will I lose my exam opportunity?

The modifications in the Code of Studies and Examinations provide explanation and solution for this. But we recommend students to eliminate all possible preventable technical issues before the exams. If you have a technical problem during the exam, take a screenshot to prove the problem and contact the teachers as soon as possible..

5. Other questions

Is there any possibility for us to leave Hungary and go to our country while this pandemic situation lasts? The distant learning also allows us to continue our studies from our home country. Can students from nearby countries travel home?

In the current situation it is not advised, since we don’t know how long the current situation and regulations will last, and if you would have to come back later on, it is not guaranteed you wouldn’t have to stay in a 2 weeks quarantine after you came back to Hungary. Thus, it is the student's decision, but he may not be able to return to Hungary.

When the university will be open again?

We don’t know yet. It depends on the epidemiological situation and the government’s orders.

I went home back in January and there is a possibility that because of the pandemic situation I will not allowed to return to Hungary until June 3, when the final closing examination is due. I'm worried about my state examination. Has the exam date changed? Or is it possible for take an online exam?

Since the questions and organization of the written final closing examination is central and unified in Hungary, we don’t know yet how and when it will be held or if there will be any change in it.

The dates of the exam period have not changed. It is up to the Immigration Office to decide when you can travel back to Hungary. Decisions on the final exam are in progress.

What should we know about language courses, Medical Hungarian Finals and Written Language Exams?

Language courses were continued in distance education. The exam for those students who are NOT graduating at the end of this semester is postponed to early September. The exam for students who ARE graduating at the end of this semester will be held on-line on the 14th week. Students have been informed directly by the Department of Languages and Communication for Biomedical Purposes
